Climbing peak Yarlovski Kupen
On Saturday, February 8, KUBRAT'S YOUTH and friends embarked on a one-day hike in Vitosha, the culmination of which was the ascent to the peak Yarlovski Kupen. This was not just a hike – it was a journey through the seasons that allowed us to experience the magic of the mountain in its full glory.
From spring to winter - the way to the top
As soon as we left, we were surprised by the landscape - in the lower parts of the mountain, everything reminded us of early spring. The paths were dry, the sun was pleasantly warm, and fresh greenery could be seen on the slopes. For a moment, we could forget that it's still February.
But the higher we climbed, the more noticeable the change became. Gradually, here and there, small patches of snow began to appear, which quickly turned into a complete winter blanket. The temperatures began to drop and the air became fresher and harsher.
When we reached the higher parts of the route, there was no sign of spring anymore. The forest was covered with snow, and the paths were frozen by the icy embrace of winter.
Conquering the top
After several hours of hiking, we were already stepping on deep snow, and in front of us stood the Yarlovski Kupen itself - towering at 2173 meters. As soon as we stepped on the top, we were greeted by a majestic panorama of the entire Vitosha, Rila and even distant parts of the Balkan Mountains.
We unfolded our organization's flag and gave ourselves plenty of time to enjoy the view. Of course, everyone took out of their backpacks the snacks they had brought for the hike, some meatballs, some potatoes, some sandwiches. There was everything, but we must not forget that food makes the fight.
Back Down
The descent gave us the opportunity to relive the transition between seasons, this time in reverse. From the snowy wasteland we once again reached the dry trails, where the setting sun's rays reminded us that spring was indeed near.
After a long and full of emotions day, we all wholly deserved a warm reward. We decided that the best way to end the adventure was with a bowl of hot soup in a cozy bistro in Zheleznitsa. As it was already getting dark outside, we sat around the table, warmed up and recounted the funniest and most exciting moments of the hike.
