Katunitsa Remembers: 15 Years Since the Murder of Angel Petrov
On September 23, 2026, 15 years had passed since the murder and riots in the village of Katunitsa.
Then, in 2011, members of the family of the so-called “Gypsy king” Kiro killed 19-year-old Angel Petrov.
The following day, his 17-year-old friend Pavel also died.
This was followed by beatings of gypsies and arson attacks on gypsies homes in various parts of Bulgaria. The house of Kiril Rashkov in Katunitsa was also burned down.
Unfortunately, the unrest did not escalate into more serious pogroms, and even today there is still a gypsy neighborhood in Katunitsa.
Today, Yordan, Angel’s younger brother, is a member of the BNU/KUBRAT YOUTH, and is himself the father of a wonderful little girl.
That is why, on this day every year, we visit Katunitsa and express our solidarity with the family.
May God protect Bulgaria and the Bulgarians.
